“We won”: Fans react to X-Men ’97 creator confirming Morph’s feelings for Wolverine

The creator of X-Men ’97  has confirmed Morph’s romantic feelings for Wolverine, and fans can’t get enough!

Over the last few weeks, Marvel enthusiasts have immersed themselves in the hit Disney+ series.

Picking up where the original X-Men: The Animated Series left off, the new episodes follow our favourite band of heroes as they dealt with the rise of anti-mutant sentiment, the fall of Genosha and the arrival of supervillain/cyborg Bastion.

After nine episodes of non-stop action, impeccable storytelling, and unforgettable cameos, it all came to a head, with the X-Men battling it out with Bastion to save both the human and mutant race from a deadly future.

While the season finale was full of incredible moments – including the rise of the Phoenix and various Marvel cameos – a particular scene between Morph and Wolverine became a true standout for LGBTQIA+ fans.

As the team works towards stopping Astroid M from crashing into Earth, the beloved shapeshifter is shown sitting next to a severely injured Logan – whose adamantium was ripped out by Magneto in the previous episode.

After an unconscious Wolverine calls for Jean Grey, Morph whispers, “She can’t say it. But I can.” The scene then ends with them telling Logan they love him while taking on the powerful telepath’s form.

Shortly after the episode aired, fans took to social media to discuss the heartwrenching scene, with many wondering if that was Morph’s way of confessing his feelings for the gruff hero.

Fortunately, the show’s creator and former showrunner, Beau DeMayo, didn’t leave viewers hanging.

“Yes, Morph was confessing romantic feelings for Logan #xmen97,” he wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter.

It didn’t take long for fans to swarm DeMayo’s mentions to celebrate the exciting admission.

One person wrote: “Thank you so much for confirming this.”

Another user tweeted: “Now confirm that Logan has romantic feelings for them, too so Twitter can explode.”

A third fan added: “I caught it. Very subtle, very poignant. Well done, Beau. Fucking loved this season.”

While many viewers expressed excitement over DeMayo’s confirmation, the former showrunner hinted that Morph’s feelings might be one-sided.

“… I thought they were just good friendsssssss,” one fan wrote, which resulted in DeMayo replying, “Well, that’s what Logan thinks.”

Fortunately, we won’t have to wonder if X-Men ’97 will be renewed, with a second and third season currently in the pre-production cycle.

While the new batch of episodes will not be led by DeMayo, who abruptly left the series ahead of its March premiere, the head of Marvel Animation told Entertainment Weekly that his ideas will be honoured in the forthcoming season.

Those plot points include the return of Apocalypse and the introduction of the mysterious Mother Askani, who made an appearance in the finale’s post-credit scene.

The entire first season of X-Men ’97 is now available to stream on Disney+.
